E3 to unveil two new handhelds?

Yes you might be thinking that E3 is still quite awhile away and that we have GDC on the gaming calendar next but Shane Bettenhausen of Ignition Entertainment (previously of EGM) hypothesized on this week’s 4 Guys 1UP podcast that Sony and Nintendo’s portable follow ups will be revealed at this year’s E3 event:

“I think the big story of E3 is DS 2 and PSP 2. I’m really excited to see that,” he further commented that the“DS and PSP both existed in completely different sides [...] if those two put out similar products at the same time, it really evens the playing field.”

You might be thinking that this is some guy just trying to start off some new rumours, but this guy is usually spot on when it comes to rumours and if his sources are correct, this almost certainly could be true.

It’s great news too the ears of PSP and DS fans atleast, however i doubt we will hear any confirmation any time soon. Still, it still gets you handheld gamers excited, huh?

Apple adds an ‘Explicit’ category to the App Store!

Following on from the recent post about Apple removing 5,000 apps from the App store because of adult content that doesn’t follow the stores guidelines, Apple seemed to have altered the App Store so many of the removed apps could be making a reappearance!

Cult of Mac has confirmed that when you go to submit an app to the App Store through iTunes, Apple have added ‘Explicit’ to the list of categories for your app to be added to! Explicit has been added alongside other categories such as Entertainment, books and games; so choose carefully when submitting an app as you don’t want the wrong people downloading your app!

As of now, Apple haven’t given a reason behind adding the new category to the App Submission, although we believe it could be due to the amount of negative press surrounding this topic and have therefore decided to create the category to try and please everyone!

What do you think? Are Apple doing the right thing by adding an Explicit category, or perhaps they should consider a parental content filter on the iPhone and iPod Touch? Leave your comments below.

Yesterday Microsoft held a secret Project Natal event, showing off the upcoming technology to various people from the technology industry and celebrities, one of whom was TV presenter Jonathan Ross who leaked a possible release date for Natal via his Twitter Status:

“OK. Before bed. Natal on X Box impressive. Not quite there yet i think but tye have til october and if they get it right…skys the limit.”

Of course, Ross’ twitter status could be refering to Microsoft’s development schedule. An October goal could be in preparation for a November launch.

Series’ 7 Marketplace, Microsoft’s answer to the Appstore

You will have more than likely read our article earlier this week about our first impressions of Windows Series’ 7 however we didn’t really go into much details about Microsoft’s answer to the Apple AppStore.. the “Marketplace“.

Well, as you can see from the image above, the first screen you will see when you enter the Marketplace Hub is a page containing categories for various applications on the marketplace and a selection of featured applications, which at a guess will be used as an advertising space for applications. This may function in a number of ways; for example like the music hub showing your most recent accessed content or perhaps applications similar to that you’ve already downloaded? Read more »

Download new plugin for IE…

I strongly suspect that the majority of Digilounge users and visitors who are currently interested in sites with HTML5-powered stuff run browsers like Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome. Still, if you happen to be saddled with Internet Explorer like me and want to experiment with HTML5 sites, you’re in luck because Christian Adams has created a new plugin that brings this video tag to IE.

Of course, it’s still a preview release at this point (there are no playback controls and you need to specify an attribute within the <video> tag to enable IE playback), but who knows, maybe Microsoft will bolt on support with an IE update at some point in the future. Internet Explorer 9 is a possibility.
