iPhone Flash App makes a million

SkyFire, an App for the iPhone which allows users to view Flash videos has managed to make a nice $1 Million in its first weekend of being on sale in the US.
The SkyFire App costs $2.99 on the American App Store, however is not officially available in the UK yet but this hasn’t stop UK users with Jailbroken iPhones getting there hands on the App.

So after Apple’s 30% cut from the $1 Million, the developers of the SkyFire app walk away with about $700,000… not bad for a weekends work eh ;)

So the reason this App has become so popular is obviously down to the fact that the iPhone does not have Flash support, something iPhone users have been wanting ever since the launch of the device.

SkyFire should be available on the UK App Store very soon…

Windows Phone 7 launches in the U.S.A.

As of this morning, if you’re lucky and/or wealthy enough to live in America, you can now buy a Windows Phone 7 device online from the Microsoft Store, Amazon or Dell, on condition that you must accept an AT&T or T-Mobile service plan.

From a quick browse, the lowest price seems to be $99 for the HTC Surround on Amazon, with an AT&T service plan (it looks like it’s already on backorder!) I’m assuming you can also pick up a phone from your local AT&T and T-Mobile retail store, too. There’s no sign of SIM-free, network-unlocked phone at the moment.

Social Media Sobriety Test stops you from Facebooking under the influence…

Unlike the social recluse that I am, many people update their Facebook or Twitter almost hourly and therefore it’s inevitable that they might end up making the mistake of posting while drunk. However, a new browser extension called Social Media Sobriety Test tries to prevent this from ever happening. How does it work? Well, while you’re at your computer and using Firefox or Chrome, it makes you take a series of tests before your status update can be sent.

You can set the hours during which the test will affect you, as well as which social media sites it will block. All the usuals (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, Tumblr and even the graveyard of Myspace are included by default), but you can also add a custom URL (i.e., in case you perhaps want to avoid posting drunken comments on your favourite tech blog, like this very site!). The tests themselves are quite interesting and based on real roadside sobriety tests – Follow the finger with your cursor or you can’t post, and then Social Media Sobriety test will post for you, telling everyone you’re too intoxicated to post right now (which is part of the process I find a little counter-productive).

It’s a real extension, but intented as a stunt by computer security firm Webroot, who created it to make the point that “we protect you from everything, even yourself.” It ain’t half bad!
